What an Excellent Beginning!
Gene Xcellence believe every young person has the potential for greatness!
Since 2020, our mission is to help youth discover who they are, what they can become, and how to build a future they’re proud of.
We walk alongside middle schoolers, high school students, and young adults as they navigate some of the most important decisions of their lives. Through career exploration, financial literacy, life‑skills development, and hands‑on experiences, we create pathways that open doors and expand horizons.
TIMELINE OF EXCELLENCE
2020-2021
The founders, DeAsia Danladi and Tailor Pickens, first launched the organization—then known as Young Afro‑Excellence—by serving minority girls at the Phillis Wheatley Community Center, providing life‑skills programming designed to build confidence, leadership, and a strong foundation for their future.
2022-2023
We chose to rebrand our organization to reflect a more inclusive vision—one that serves all students. As we worked with youth, it became clear that many lacked essential life skills and support in making informed career decisions both before and after high school graduation. We believe every student deserves access to these skills, and that they should be taught long before they step into adulthood.
2023-2025
We began partnering with schools within the Greenville County School District and other organizations to help provide workshops and resources for students to succeed beyond high school graduation in their career and personal lives.
